What I do for fun

Books

I've been reading since I was two years old. I read constantly through college, but have had to cut back in order to make room for actually having a social life. Still, between my books and the Net, I keep my appetite for the written word almost satisfied.

Theatre

I like comedy, particularly farce. I like plays in general, though, and I find them even more interesting now that I've met some theatre people. We generally subscribe to ACT in San Francisco, and when we are in New York City, we try to see something on Broadway.

Music

My tastes in music generally run toward "folk rock," although that's not all I listen to. Here's a list of my favorite artists, plus some good music-related pointers.

Board Games

I've got a shelf full of them, but not enough people to play with.

Pool

I only learned to play a few years ago, but now I go out regularly with my friends to play - luckily, it's currently trendy, so there are a lot of good places to play in the area.

Dancing

First, I didn't dance at all. Then, I learned to do regency dancing (I particularly loved the waltzing) at a science fiction convention. Then, I learned to do contradancing. Finally, I learned to do free-form dancing (partly at another science fiction convention). Now we go out to the clubs in SF quite often; I love to dance, but I really need to be in better shape!

Hottubbing

How very Californian of me. I first hot-tubbed in college, at a friend's birthday party, in 1982. I discovered later that my mother had been hottubbing (also for the first time, I believe) that same night.

Around here, it can be either a social event (I've been in groups as large as 12, where we needed two rooms), or a good way to get your date's clothes off. Mostly the former, though many people imagine that it's mostly the latter.

Computers Computers are a big part of my life. One of the more fun things I do which is related to them is read Dilbert.
