An Annotated List of Backgrounds

Hot lists are all very well, but making a list really isn't enough. How do you know which of these links to go to? So, I've annotated these links, so that you have at least some idea of what you're getting in to when you go to these pages. Send me additional comments on these links, or new links with comments, and I will add them to this page.

Texture Land
Some very nice (though not very practical) backgronds: stones and bricks, bizarre computer-generated textures, and an exceedingly cool bunch of vegetables, which would probably be really difficult to use in a page, but cool. Let me know if you ever do use this one - I want to see the page!

Julianne's Background Textures
Nice, very usable textures, organized by color.

Land O' Textures!
A large selection, but nothing really amazing. A bit slow to load. Shows full page version.

backgrounds abound....
Just another set of random background textures. Slow to load.

Russ's Backgrounds
Some extremely cool backgrounds. Shows full page version, and sometimes an actual page using the background. Also counter digits, lines, icons, bullets, etc.

Textures
Gorgeous images; large, probably not very usable for backgrounds to text. Too distracting, in any case.

Pattern Land!
Large selection. Some really cool items, like the film strip, the engravings, and the links. Shows full page version. Slow to load.

Background Patterns
Some very good quality backgrounds. Varying usability with text. Shows full page version. Also images, sounds, and icons.

TEXTURES-R-US
Extremely usable backgrounds (this page's background comes from this site). Very slow to load. Also images, good clip art, and icons. Shows full page version, with sample text in different colors.

Iain's Textures on the WWW
A variety of unusual backgrounds. Loads quickly. Shows full page version. Not all are really usable with text.

Yahoo's List of Backgrounds
If you can't find what you're looking for elsewhere, go to Yahoo.
