Nero Wolfe

Please note that these are questions submitted by readers of this page, and you are quite free to submit your own. I don't have anywhere near all the answers, but the readers seem to do pretty well, and I'll add your questions to the page when I have time. -- Muffy

Floor Plans

I got the floor plan of the ground floor of the house from a drawing by Rex Stout. However, people would like to know the floor plan of the office: How are the desks arranged? Does Archie face Nero? Where exactly is the red chair and the globe? Also, has anyone figured out the floor plans of the other floors (basement, with Fritz's room; second floor; third floor; roof, with greenhouse and Theodore's room)?

One-Way Glass

Is it ever mentioned why Archie had the one-way glass put in the front door of the brownstone? Is there a story in which they actually replace the door/window? In what story was the peephole last mentioned? In what story was the glass first mentioned.

Answer:

The novel The Silent Speaker immediately precedes Too Many Women. In The Silent Speaker, Phoebe Gunther is murdered literally on Wolfe's doorstep. Archie comments that if he had happened to move the curtain over the glass, he would have seen the murder, and known the murderer's identity. It is in the next story, Too Many Women, that the one way glass is mentioned as having been installed. Obviously, Phoebe Gunther's death at Wolfe's door prompted the installation of the one way glass panel.

Television Series

Does anyone know what happened with the television series, and if those episodes are ever aired, perhaps on cable channels?

Answer:

Rebroadcasts begin August 1, 1998 and continue Saturdays and Sundays throughout August 1988 (maybe longer) on Nick at Night's TV Land. (Thanks to the large number of people who sent this one, particularly Glen Cummings, who sent the exact answer.)
